I moved to Hershey from Meadville, PA in 1972. I first met Mike ROCKS Horrocks the Spring of 1981 when we were both a part of the High School Baseball team. Mike (Senior) helped me (Freshman) by letting me warm up next to him the first few tryouts and practices. It was a memory I have never forgot. He didn’t know who I was but noticed I was nervous arriving from a different building. In 1982 Hershey High Baseball Team won the AAA State Championship. I was fortunately apart of that team. I graduated in 1984 and was inducted into the Hershey High School Sports Hall of Fame. It is a true honor to be an Alumni and believe me Hershey High ROCKS!!!!
I have been involved in government consulting and fundraising for the past 25 years. I had the honor of being at part of a local group of volunteers that raised money and continuously educate the students of Derry Township School District on Michael Horrocks. That was the 10th Anniversary of 9/11; September 2nd, 2012 when we placed a memorial behind Hershey High under the scoreboard at the football practice field.
It has taken me 10 years, but Jan 2022 I meet with Derry Township and we are partnering to fulfill my mission of honoring Michael Horrocks with a memorial in downtown Hershey. The Memorial will include a Stainless Steel 9 foot 11 inch memorial to ROCKS surrounded by 2 additional memorials. One will be dedicated to the veterans of both Hershey and Milton Hershey. This will include the WWII memorial that was removed from the former site located at the Hershey Plaza and Swimming facility. The other memorial will be dedicated to emergency personnel in fire, police (Michael Henry) and ambulance. The grounds will be covered will personalize walkway or bricks and large pavers. This will be located next to the Hershey Volunteer Fire Department in downtown Hershey for all to honor. HERSHEY ROCKS!
